Computing Access for New Students
Network ID and Email Provisioning
These are the computing components that you will need to get started at IUSM:
- Network ID -- up to 8 characters -- Mine is mgray (may also be referred to as a “username” or "userID").
- An IUPUI email address – Mine is mgray@iupui.edu.
- An Exchange email account – This is where your mailbox resides.
Read through these options then click on the link that applies to you.
- Brand-new to the IU system
You have never taken classes or worked at any IU campus. You are starting fresh. - Association NOT recent
If your association is not recent, you will continue to use the same IU username, but you will have to recreate everything else. If you have forgotten your password, I can reset it for you. - Recent Association
If your association is recent (within the past year or so), you may still have active computing accounts in the IU system.
Brand-new to the IU system — You will have to create an IU username, an IUPUI email address, and an Exchange email account.
- Go to https://ams.iu.edu/skit/StartHere.aspx and follow the prompts.
- Click through several pages of policy statements and agree by typing “Yes” in the box.
- Identify yourself – fill in the blanks. If you don't know your University ID number, click on the faint red link in the "Identify yourself" box to look it up.
- Now you are at https://itaccounts.iu.edu/. Click on “create my first IU computing accounts.”
- You be given options for your Network ID. Some are as brief as 3 letters.
- You will create an email address like username@iupui.edu.
- You will click on “Create more accounts” to create your Exchange account. On the resulting page, you will see various options. Scroll down to Exchange. Do not select other email options. If you do not see “Exchange,” contact mgray@iupui.edu &msash; 317-274-7163.
- After creating your Exchange account, wait 20 minutes or so, then continue at https://itaccounts.iu.edu/ams_user/
- From the “Manage your e-mail” page, click on “set your primary e-mail.” In the pick-list, select username@iupui.edu.
- On this page, under “Forward your IU e-mail”
Select the third option – “Set delivery for this address to user’s UITS mail account on” AND Select “Exchange” from the pick-list.
Click on the “Forward e-mail” button. - DO NOT forward username@iupui.edu to another email host. To use your new IUPUI Exchange email, go to http://www.exchange.iu.edu.
- Send a test email to mgray@iupui.edu.
IU association NOT recent — If you remember your username and password, go to https://itaccounts.iu.edu/ and click on “Manage my IU computing accounts.” — If you don’t remember your password, contact mgray@iupui.edu — 317-274-7163. I can reset it.
- If your accounts have expired, you will see a message indicating that you have no IU computing accounts. Follow the steps in Brand-new to the IU system.
- If your accounts are active, follow the steps in Recent IU Association.
Recent IU Association — Computing accounts may still be active
- If you remember your username and password, go to https://itaccounts.iu.edu/ and click on “Manage my IU computing accounts.” If you don’t remember your password, contact mgray@iupui.edu — 317-274-7163. I can reset it.
- Under “Select a service” click on “view your accounts.”
These accounts should appear as “Created”:
- Active Directory Service
- Network ID
You probably have some sort of email account also – Cyrus, Imail, Umail – and probably don’t have Exchange. - To create an Exchange account
Under “Select a service” click on “create more accounts.”
Select Exchange and click the “Create Account” button. - After creating your Exchange account, wait 20 minutes or so, then continue at https://itaccounts.iu.edu/ams_user/
- Under “Select a service” click on “manage your e-mail”
- If you don’t already have an IUPUI email address (username@iupui.edu) click on “create new email address”
- From the “Manage your e-mail” page, click on “set your primary e-mail” In the pick-list, select username@iupui.edu.
- On this page, under “Forward your IU e-mail”
Select the third option – “Set delivery for this address to user’s UITS mail account on” AND
select “Exchange” from the pick-list.
Click on the “Forward e-mail” button. - If you have other email addresses within the IU system (username@indiana.edu, username@iusb.edu, etc), it is best to forward them to username@exchange.iu.edu also. Not doing so is very likely to lead to confusion.
- DO NOT forward username@iupui.edu to another email host. To use your new IUPUI Exchange email, go to http://www.exchange.iu.edu.
- Send a test email to mgray@iupui.edu.
