Student Organizations Calendar FAQ — Medical Student Affairs
What is the Student Organizations Calendar?
The Student Organizations Calendar was launched in September 2008. For brevity, it is sometimes referred to as the "Events calendar." It is primarily for posting Student Organizations events. Other important IUSM events may appear on the calendar also.
The intention is to replicate the notices that go to MD2B-EVENTS-L. This will facilitate organizational and individual planning by graphically depicting time conflicts as only calendars can do.
Who can post to the Student Organizations Calendar?
Events that are posted to the listserv must also be posted to the calendar. If you are a student leader and have sending access to MD2B-EVENTS-L, be sure to post the content of your email to the Student Organizations Calendar. It is quick and easy to copy and paste to the calendar.
Don't overlook this essential part of your communication strategy. Under-utilized calendars can be misleading! If you need access, please contact mgray@iupui.edu. (If your event is not intended for all medical students, try to indicate the audience in the event title.)
How can I post to the Student Organizations Calendar?
To post, log into Angel and click on Student Organizations at the left, under Community Groups.
There are two ways to add an event:
Go to the appropriate date, then click on the day number in the calendar to add your event
OR
click on Add in the upper left corner.
Either way, be sure to include the name of your organization, the location of the event, and contact information.
You must set the "user" field to "Everyone." Otherwise, it will default to your userID and will be for your eyes only.
Do not use the password/confirm fields in your posting. These fields will make your posting inaccessible.
After you post an event, check to make sure that it is visible in the public view.

Medical Student Affairs and Medical Student Council will provide prominent links to the calendar.
Can I import events from the Student Organizations Calendar to my personal calendar?
Yes. The events are in standard "icalendar" format, which works with other standard calendars. To save an event to your Outlook calendar, just mouseover the event, click on "Export," and select "Open." The event is displayed Outlook appointment format. Save it and it appears on your Outlook calendar.
